FBI Raids Liberty Dollar Evansville Indiana 3of3 (Ron Paul)
ATTENTION!! FACTUAL ERRORS IN THIS REPORT!!! Myself and a few Ron Paul compatriots were interviewed today on our local Fox 7 News affiliate and our NBC affiliate here in Evansville, Indiana. At issue was the seizure of Liberty Dollar property and freeze of assets by FBI and Secret Service agents. In an effort to make the best of a bad situation, we went to first see if we could help in any way, and were at least able to get Ron Paul in the local news for the first time. Thanks to Fox 7 WTVW in Evansville for their fair and sympathetic coverage. Don't know if I can exactly say the same for our NBC affiliate. They obviously had an agenda in their coverage and made several mistakes in their coverage, including saying that the man they interviewed who lost $5000 was suing the Liberty Dollar, which is NOT true! He was actually joining a class action lawsuit to sue the Federal Government. Someone informed me they called WFIE 14, the NBC affiliate responsible for this bad reporting and they claim, at least, they will correct the mistakes in a future follow up story. Let's hope they do.

www.advocate.com An Oklahoma student is suing his states tax commission over its rejection of his request to put the words Im Gay on his license plate. According to The Wall Street Journal, Keith Kimmel argues that the denial violates his First Amendment rights, and that it represents a double standard because license plates with messages such as STR8FAN and STR8SXI have been approved in the past. Last fall the tax commission turned down his request for the Im Gay license plate, arguing that it violated an internal rule against tags that may be offensive to the general public. The Oklahoma City Community College student filed a lawsuit in response to the denial last week, asking for his application to be granted. His attorney calls the state agencys decision viewpoint discrimination. In the interview below with The Oklahoman, Kimmel discusses the double standard, including plates referencing heterosexuality and sex toys that slipped through," according to the state agency.

More at www.theuptake.org. The system that cares for America's Veterans is strained and breaking. There's been an increase in the number of homeless veterans following the Desert Storm and Iraq wars. Normally homeless people are helped by State and County governments, but veterans are supposed to be helped by the Federal government through the Veterans Administration. Over the last several budgets, the VA has been under funded. More than one-half of the VA facilities do not offer counseling for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). A large majority of facilities that do offer PTSD counseling can't handle the caseload, which is unfortunate since many suicides among veterans have been attributed to untreated PTSD. Against that backdrop, advocacy groups are meeting with politicians from both parties at the RNC and the DNC. In this video The uptake's Noah Kunin reports that Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons came to the vets events, but refused to talk about what he is doing on veteran s issues. Gibbons has been given low marks by many veterans advocacy groups.

In May of 1998, President Clinton issued Presidential Decision Directive 62 (PDD-62). In effect, this directive formalized and delineated the roles and responsibilities of federal agencies in the development of security plans for major events. The clarifying of responsibilities serves to focus more clearly the role of each agency and eliminate the duplication of efforts and resources. In 2000, the Presidential Protection Act of 2000 became public law. Included in the bill, signed on December 19, was an amendment to Title 18, USC § 3056 which codified PDD-62. Now, with the support of federal law, the Secret Service is authorized to participate "in the planning, coordination and implementation of security operations at special events of national significance." When an event is designated by the Secretary of Homeland Security as a National Special Security Event (NSSE), the Secret Service assumes its mandated role as the lead agency for the design and implementation of the oper ational security plan. The Secret Service has developed a core strategy to carry out its security operations, which relies heavily on its established partnerships with law enforcement and public safety officials at the local, state and federal levels. The goal of the cooperating agencies is to provide a safe and secure environment for Secret Service protectees, other dignitaries, the event participants and the general public. There is a tremendous amount of advance planning and coordination in preparation for these events, particularly in the areas of venue and motorcade route security, communications, credentialing and training.
